  • Michele I go to Publix Supermarket to shop. They have great meats and fresh fruits in their store. They are a little more pricey then Walmart, but when they have their buy one get one free sale, which is once a week, you can truly get even more of a savings with Publix. The staff is always wiling to walk you to an item that you can not find and they have separate people to bag your items. They have Boar's Head lunch meats at Publix which is the only lunch meat I will purchase. The deli department is always friendly and professional, very clean area. They bag people do offer to walk your groceries out to the car and put them in the car for you, they do not accept tips for this either. They say it is their job. It is truly a nice experience to shop at Publix and be pampered during that time you are in the store. added 2009-12-09
  • Michele My husband and I see Dr. Cathy and Bert Barnes as our primary doctor. They are both husband and wife and my husband goes to Dr. Bert and I Dr. Cathy. This was an ideal situation for the both of us, because I wanted a female and him a male doctor. We get to go to the same office and they are both wonderful doctors. I can not say enough good things about Cathy and Bert Barnes. You can always get in when you are sick the day you call and there is never a long wait to see them. They call you back with results right away too. When you go in to see the doctors they truly listen to you and show true compassion toward you. The staff is friendly, helpful and always remembers your name. I have recommended them to my family and friends and everyone who goes their truly always says how much they love them both! added 2009-12-09
  • Michele St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church has been our home Church for the last nine years. We moved to Florida ten years ago and was in search of a Church that we would feel at home with. We were very happy to have found St. Thomas church. My second daughter was baptized at St. Thomas and my oldest daughter made her first communion there so far. The Church staff makes you feel at home and really cares about your children. They both attend religion at St. Thomas and love to go each week. They have various bible studies, ministries and support groups within the church for all types of stewardship. The mass incorporates lots of songs and music in their worship. I highly recommend St.Thomas Aquinas to anyone looking for a church that will make you feel welcome and at home. added 2009-12-09

City Spotlight

Tampa

One of Florida's oldest cities and it's major port on the gulf coast. Tampa was first settled in 1823 and incorporated as a town in 1855. Interstate 275 runs north-south through the city, connecting in downtown Tampa with Interstate 4 running east to Orlando/Disney World. I-275 continues across Tampa Bay to the city of St.Petersburg on the west side.

It is a year round destination for vacationers and retirees. Ybor City, near downtown Tampa is the old town founded by immigrant tobacco workers in the early 1900s. Today it is a festive place with many bars and restaurants. The Channelside district in downtown Tampa is the site of the Florida Aquarium and the cruise terminal, plus several shops and restaurants. The Miami-New York Amtrak rail service stops in downtown Tampa

Both the Museum of Science and Industry and the Busch Gardens theme parks are on the north side of town, near the University of South Florida campus. Close by is the Lowry Park zoo. All are near I-275. The gigantic St.Pete Times Forum, where hockey and soccer games are held, is on the south side of downtown, near the Tampa Convention center. In south Tampa is sprawling MacDill Air Force base.

The busy Tampa International Airport is the largest on the gulf coast, with daily transatlantic service to London on British Airways. Taxis, rental cars, and airport shuttle services are available at the baggage claim areas on the lower level. On the east side of the airport is the International Plaza mall with over a hundred stores and dining venues.

Right by the airport is the Raymond James stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team. There are many hotels in this entire area.

In St. Petersburg is Tropicana Field stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. Most beaches are across the bay from Tampa. Stretching over 20 miles, from Clearwater Beach, which is jammed on spring break, and throughout the summer, on the north to Pass-A-Grille beach on the south, is one public beach after another, each with it's own name, with thousands of accomodations to choose from. There is no need to have a car, as the beach trolley runs the entire length every half an hour seven days a week. Actually, it's a PSTA city bus modified to look like a trolley.

The world-renowned Salvador Dali museum of Art is near downtown St.Petersburg.
